(Updated) BMWi- Range Extender a Limp Mode?

Range anxiety; it\'s what holds many back from buying an electric vehicle and why BMW has done some serious R&D into a range extender for the i3. Truth be told, this is the car we are interested in adding to the stable and not the pure electric model and its not because of range anxiety- it\'s the being prepared mentality we religiously follow.

Bi-Turbo and Style, The New Alpina B3 BiTurbo

It takes a lot to be an auto manufacturer in Germany. It takes even more to hang with the best and that is precisely what Alpina has done with their newest offerings (at least on paper). The all new B3 is a slick interpretation of luxury and performance in an exclusive package. Truth is, over the years we have met some seriously passionate BMW personalities but few come close to Alpina\'s proprietor Andreas Boviensapien and we have grown to respect the brand a great deal. As an engineer and race driver that has a knack for building things that get up and go in a hurry Andy shows genuine enthusiasm, as is evident by the twinkle he gets in his eyes when discussing products that are finished up at his Buchloe factory.

Video: Karim Habib, Head of BMW Car Design

Habib has been in charge of BMW Design since June 2012. The Lebanon-born Canadian heads a team of designers and developers working to constantly enhance and redevelop the designs of current and future BMW models. A sophisticated designer who grew up in five countries with vastly different cultures, he is committed to the idea of evolving design and is always striving to expand his range of skills.

Video: Old School Alpinas

We will not apologize for loving the old school BMW driving experience, the E30 M3 and M535i before it- but there may be a few cars out there that are BMW based and tuned to perfection that sit on the same pedestal. Those cars would be from Burkard Bovensiepen, the founder of Alpina.

Counter Steer: Comparing Apples to Oranges

There was a time when BMW was the standard for driving sedans in any variety offered, from base model on up to top of the line ///M versions. For better or worse that time has passed. A side effect of that makes comparing today\'s models to those of yesteryear a bit unfair, the market has changed and the cars have changed along with the wants of the buying public. However there is a way to make the tendency to compare present to past more reasonable.

BF Garage: Sizing Matters

The new 1 is almost perfect from a intimacy and comfort level for size. Without looking at the dimensions, it \"feels\" the size of an E46 with a bit more room in the back, or maybe it its the angles of everything but it all just feels the way it should. If the rumors come to fruition and the board will green light a 1 series sedan for the US, it would be a huge success with enthusiasts as the size is right and with those that feel the 3er has moved into the stratosphere price wise.

Official: BMW to Race Z4 in ALMS

We\'ve been talking about BMW Motorsport building a version of the Z4 to compete in ALMS for years here at Bimmerfile. It looks like both sides have come to an agreement and our favorite Bavarian manufacturer will be competing in 2013 with a Z4 in the GTE class stateside. The Z4 in race guise has been one of the most aggressive looking and sounding vehicles on the grid and it is finally coming to the US.
